Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is expected to address members of the 547-seat Parliament on Thursday July 4, 2024, as the House convenes for its 36th regular session, beginning 8:30 am.
The parliament’s budget year review session is expected to approve the draft budget of the federal government for the 2024/25 Ethiopian fiscal year which was recently proposed by the Council of Ministers which amounts close to 1 trillion Birr.
The federal government has by early June unveiled a budget of 971.2 billion Br for the 2024/25 fiscal year, a leap from the previous year's allocation by 25pc. The increase represents a historic milestone as the federal budget reaches the one trillion Birr mark for the first time.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is also expected to address comments and queries from lawmakers and later review the performance report of the federal government for the 2023/24 Ethiopian budget year.
