PM Abiy: Gov’t Improving Immigration Service in Response to Public Grievance

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said on his social media page that numerous immigration service improving tasks have been undertaken over the past few months in response to the demand and grievance of the public.

Abiy announced that his government has reformed the Immigration and Citizenship Service to modernize and offer top-grade services.

Mentioning few of the undertakings, Abiy said, “only about 900 passports would be issued each day. The figure has now increased to 1,700 a day.”

In addition, government got a million passports printed to address the previously accumulated quest for passport. And 87% of the newly printed ones were distributed, he explained.

Ethiopia registered 10,467 foreigners who are living in the country illegally.

He said that 4,276,474 people received services at air and land access points. "Many customers were able to obtain visas, including e-visas," he said, by opening visa services in 88 countries.
