Rainy Season Tree Planting Launched in Tigray

By Mekdelawit Seyoum

With Ethiopia's Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) strategy bearing fruit, Tigray State has embraced the national rainy season tree planting campaign.

This morning, Getachew Redda, who sits at the top of the Regional Interim Administration, presided over the launching ceremony.

Emphasizing that tree planting helps in restoration of overused and damaged natural resources, such as surface soil and water, and stopping desertification, Getachew urged the society, young and old, to surge forward with the initiative.

For his part, Head of the Regional Agriculture & Natural Resources Bureau, Alemberhan Harefyo, underlined that tree seedlings have been readied in 144 seedling centers. About 38,000 hectares of land will be cultivated through the green legacy program, according to Harefyo.

This directly contributes to the current drive toward achieving food self-sufficiency by supporting sustainable agriculture as envisioned in Sustainable Development Goal 2.//
