Ethiopia's Road Safety Strategy Gains Global Recognition

Ethiopia is gaining international recognition for its dedication to road safety, demonstrated through the development of a comprehensive national road safety strategy and the integration of road safety education into the national curriculum. This commitment has been lauded by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), highlighting Ethiopia's proactive approach to improving road safety.

Further solidifying its efforts, Ethiopia is actively enhancing its transport infrastructure through the Corridor Development Project. This initiative includes the construction of dedicated bicycle and pedestrian paths, alongside improved road connectivity, aiming to create a safer environment for all road users.

In a testament to Ethiopia's leadership in this domain, Dr. Alemu Sime, the Minister of Transport and Logistics of Ethiopia, has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the UN Road Safety Fund. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics views this appointment as a valuable opportunity for Ethiopia to share its experiences and learn from global best practices in road safety.

Established in April 2018, the United Nations Road Safety Fund is a globally focused organization dedicated to mobilizing resources and supporting impactful road safety projects worldwide. Ethiopia's involvement on the board will enable it to contribute to and benefit from international collaborations in this critical area.
