Over the next decade, Africa aims to increase agri-food production by 45%, a key target of its agricultural development strategy. According to the AU, the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy and Action Plan, adopted in January, will transform African agri-food systems and pave the way for food security and sovereignty by 2035.
Key targets include a 50% reduction in post-harvest losses, a tripling of intra-African agri-food trade, and increasing the share of locally processed food to 35% of agri-food GDP by 2035. This ambitious plan is crucial in light of Africa's rapidly growing population, projected to reach 2.4 billion by 2050.
