Ethiopia is the birthplace of heroes. Throughout history, its heroes have portrayed that they would not compromise the sovereignty and borders of their country. They have sacrificed their lives, shed their blood, and preserved the sovereignty of their country. They have also handed over freedom and pride to the next generation.
Its children, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, and other man-made and natural differences, have unitedly defeated the colonialists in Adwa and the invaders in Karamara. Today as well, it has thousands of children who are awake to save their country in the same spirit.
Ethiopians, who are zealous for their sovereignty and independence, gathered from all four corners of the country back then in Adwa, like bees whose lives have been touched, and saved their country; they wrote history and have become a symbol for all black peoples.
They were able to repeat this same historical event 47 years ago against the Ziadbare invading army that carried out a blind invasion in Karamara, claiming to create the great Somalia. This time as well, Ethiopians have once again proven their invincibility in the square of history.… Ethiopia, which used to be proud and honored, has been violated.
At that time, Ethiopia was able to repel the invading force that had reached Dire Dawa and inflicted human and material losses on it. The most notable of these was the victory of Karamara.
In the course of history, they have achieved another victory that is instructive for both friends and enemies. The victory, like in the past, is the result of great patriotism, freedom, and loyalty.
Just as the Ethiopian people, when Italy came to invade their country, rushed into the battlefield without hesitation at the king’s proclamation, the Karamara generation has accepted the call of the current leader, armed, and ready for duty.
At that time, despite the unresolved contradictions within and outside the army since its formation; leaving the contradictions behind; it has upheld its sovereignty with its former unity. Like bees that have been touched by the hive, it has gathered together from all four corners and saved the country; and it has written a new history.
Many heroes who said, “I would rather die than see my country being violated” have upheld the sovereignty of their country by sacrificing themselves in the battlefield. This glorious victory and sacrifice will be remembered forever in history.
We, the generations of today, must also learn from this lesson. The merit of the heroes who sacrificed their lives for the sovereignty and unity of the country is returned when we can become patriots of peace and development.
In particular, we must make our best efforts to make the sacrifices of our fathers shine brightly by becoming ambassadors of peace for our distant country. We must be a new generation that will put aside our history of conflict, war, and disagreement and come to terms with our common history; we must strive for our common country; and we must be a new generation that has a common vision to inherit a prosperous Ethiopia for our children.
We must put the country on a level of development and prosperity that our fathers and mothers have fought for so that our pride and freedom are complete. This generation is currently building and completing the great Abay Dam.
Completing this dam, which is the pride of the country, and building other dams in the same way, is one of the trusts of this generation to bring light to the country and Africa. Sustaining the great movement achieved in agricultural development, especially wheat, and feeding Africa beyond Ethiopia should be another legacy of this generation.
Ethiopia has been writing a new history in the past five years in terms of leaving a green footprint. Although those who do not like the development and progress of Ethiopia try to discredit this great movement, its work is not hidden, and Ethiopia is being remembered for its effectiveness in all the forums it has participated in.
Since the era is technological, the young generation is expected to advance the development of the country by equipping it with modern technology and skills so that Ethiopia can emerge as a winner on the world stage like Adwa and Karamara.
Brave Ethiopians have shed their blood in the past, saying that they will not violate the borders of the country in Adwa, Karamara and other battlefields; they have been sacrificing their precious lives by breaking their bones.
The current generation should also follow in the footsteps of their ancestors who made sacrifices by carrying out activities that will advance the country in peace and development, while protecting the country's borders and sovereignty. This is how the sacrifices of our ancestors can be rewarded!
