The Chief Administrator of the Amhara Region, Arega Kebede, stated that the Amhara Region is on a better path of peace and development than ever before.
The Chief Administrator said that the peace and security problems that existed in the region were primarily linked to political extremism.
He noted that these extremist groups had caused human, material, social, and psychological damage to the residents of the region.
Arega mentioned that the leadership at the time had a lenient stance in fighting and correcting the problem to the expected extent, but stated that effective work has now been done in restoring peace in the region by involving the community.
The administrator also indicated that the residents of the region have recognized the true identity of the extremist group and are playing their part for lasting peace by standing with the government.
He emphasized that the region is currently on a better path of peace and development than ever before.
He explained that the government has put in place two solution directions to make the peace achieved in the region lasting and reliable.
He stated that the first is prioritizing and working on peace options, and in this regard, the government is always working with its door open for peace.
On the other hand, he affirmed that the government will continue to carry out its responsibility of enforcing the law on extremist groups who reject the call for peace and work to disrupt the region's peace.
ENA reported that he also called on the people of the region to strengthen the effort they have started in protecting peace by standing with the government in the future.
