Over 100,000 quintals of improved seeds are being distributed to farmers in the Tigray region for the 2017/18 E.C. production season.
Abera Kedene, Deputy Head of the Regional Interim Administration's Bureau of Agriculture and Natural Resources, stated that activities enabling the supply of improved seeds and other necessary inputs for farmers have been carried out.
Accordingly, he said that they have been working on a plan to collect improved seeds of various crop types multiplied by farmers and research institutions during the past production season.
He stated that in collaboration with the Ethiopian Agricultural Businesses Corporation and cooperative unions, over 100,000 quintals of improved seeds are currently being distributed.
He also indicated that 250,000 hectares of land have been prepared for the cultivation of wheat, sorghum, teff, sesame, and other crops using cluster farming to increase agricultural productivity in the region.
Furthermore, he explained that full preparations have been made to cultivate over 130,000 hectares of land through mechanization, ENA learned.
