Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today delivered a message extending his best wishes to the public on the occasion of the Easter holiday, drawing parallels between the religious celebration and the current journey of the nation.
In his message, released on April 19, 2025, the Prime Minister characterized Easter as a "holiday of sacrifice, perseverance, and hope." He used the narrative of Christ's sacrifice as a central metaphor, stating that just as Christ paid the price for the world, individuals must be willing to sacrifice for the salvation of their country and people.
Prime Minister Abiy stressed that saving the nation requires personal sacrifice – giving of one's strength, time, knowledge, pride, and ego – rather than seeking to sacrifice others. He called for humility, reconciliation, and consultation as essential paths, even when facing challenges, insults, and suffering, likening it to carrying Ethiopia's cross.
The message highlighted perseverance as a crucial virtue needed by the country, urging citizens to stand firm against difficulties, condemnation, contempt, and betrayal. He expressed confidence that for those who persevere, Ethiopia's "resurrection" is not only near but also visible.
Concluding with a message of hope, the Prime Minister stated that just as Sunday follows Friday and resurrection follows death, Ethiopia's time of trial is passing, and its inevitable resurrection will come. He envisioned a future where many who have left will return and those who have erred will realize their mistakes.
Prime Minister Abiy concluded his Easter greeting by stating that the holiday teaches this message of resilience and hope, and offered blessings for Ethiopia and its people, wishing for the nation to live forever, honored and respected by the efforts of its children.
