Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Field Marshal Birhanu Jula, the Chief of General Staff of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF), has announced that Ethiopia has established a robust and reliable defense system capable of countering threats from any direction. Speaking at the 129th anniversary celebration of the Adwa Victory, the Field Marshal emphasized that the nation’s military is fully prepared to safeguard Ethiopia’s sovereignty and national interests.
The 129th anniversary of the Adwa Victory is being celebrated under the theme “Adwa: The Victory of Black People,” with various events taking place at the Adwa Memorial Museum. Field Marshal Birhanu highlighted that the lessons learned from the Adwa Victory remain central to Ethiopia’s commitment to defending its national interests.
“The Adwa Victory taught us the importance of standing firm for Ethiopia’s national interests,” said Field Marshal Birhanu. He noted that the historic triumph not only defeated colonial forces but also demonstrated Ethiopia’s resilience and inspired Black people worldwide.
The Field Marshal underscored that the Adwa Victory shattered the ambitions of colonial powers and proved that all human beings are equal. “This victory awakened oppressed nations globally to rise up for their freedom,” he said, adding that it significantly boosted the confidence of Black people everywhere.
“Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Ethiopia will continue to defend its sovereignty and dignity, ensuring that both friends and adversaries understand this reality,” Field Marshal Birhanu stated. He called on Ethiopians to honor the legacy of Adwa by upholding the spirit of bravery and victory demonstrated by their forefathers.
The Field Marshal also addressed the challenges Ethiopia faces today, noting that some individuals have chosen to betray their country by aligning with external enemies to undermine its interests. “Those who think Ethiopia will weaken when challenged should know that no enemy can defeat us. Traitors who sell their dignity to the enemy have no place in our society,” he declared.
Field Marshal Birhanu reaffirmed that the Ethiopian National Defense Forces, inspired by the values and heroism of the Adwa warriors, remain fully committed to protecting the nation. “Our military is united, deeply patriotic, highly skilled, and fully prepared to defend Ethiopia,” he said.
He further revealed that Ethiopia has strengthened its air, naval, land, and cyber forces to create a defense system that is not only impenetrable but also capable of preempting any potential threats. “We have built a reliable defense posture to counter any aggression from any direction,” the Field Marshal stated.
The 129th anniversary of the Adwa Victory serves as a reminder of Ethiopia’s enduring spirit of resistance and unity, inspiring current and future generations to uphold the nation’s sovereignty and pride.
