Highlighting the increasing importance of data in today’s world, Abiy stated, “It’s essential to protect our data sovereignty, prevent digital exploitation, and develop homegrown AI solutions that reflect African values and contexts,” underscoring the urgency of these issues as Africa navigates its path towards modernization.
The Prime Minister articulated a broader vision where Africa not only consumes technology but also plays a pivotal role in the global tech narrative.
“As our data sets grow, so must our capacity to harness them for local and global good. When used responsibly, AI can be a powerful tool in conflict prevention, transparent governance, and inclusive development,” he added, pointing to the multifaceted potential of technology to transform societies.
Abiy Ahmed’s remarks come at a crucial time, as the digital realm holds immense opportunities for the continent's economic development.
He urged, “Africa must actively participate in the global technology race to ensure productivity in the evolving digital landscape, while also ensuring Africans benefit equitably from this technological revolution.”
His call to action emphasized the need for a collective African approach toward technology and innovation, ensuring the continent is not merely a passive recipient of advancements but a key contributor to global progress.
The Prime Minister further highlighted the necessity for a robust African voice in global conversations, stressing that “Africa’s voice on global issues must grow stronger.”
He called for the empowerment of grassroots movements and youth networks, asserting that by focusing on digital literacy and technological innovation through education, Africa can inspire the next generation of leaders and thinkers.

He emphasized the significance of ongoing national dialogue aimed at reconciliation and peace, positioning these discussions as central to Ethiopia's future.
On the economic front, the Prime Minister touted substantial achievements, noting that “over the past five years, we have doubled our cultivated land, increasing crop production to nearly 700 million quintals,” with wheat accounting for 40% of this total.
He attributed these agricultural successes to strengthened food security and sustainable development across the nation.
In the realm of education, Abiy highlighted the establishment of 40,000 kindergartens and primary schools to boost early childhood education, alongside a bold initiative to train five million individuals, thereby enhancing Ethiopia’s burgeoning digital economy.
Through this careful and nurturing approach, Abiy Ahmed envisions an Ethiopia that not only copes with challenges but thrives, becoming a beacon of hope and a model for the rest of Africa.
