Would AU come into life without Ethiopia?

The price Ethiopia and Ethioians paid for the independence of Africa and the countries under colonial rule is so high that it is impossible to imagine the independence of black peoples without Ethiopia. Ethiopia, when it was the only member of the League of Nations, denounced the European invasion; and it stood alone in the square of justice and defended itself.

Ethiopia fought against the colonialists,if its children had not secured its independence by shedding their blood and sacrificing their blood and bones , the independence of Africans would have been delayed . After securing its own independence through the fierce struggle and bitter sacrifice of her beloved children, Ethiopia has freed all African countries from oppression; It has also played a leading role in the establishment of the Organization of African Unity-whats today African Union .

The current African Union, the former Organization of African Unity, was founded in 1963 according to the European calendar with the aim of strengthening African unity and cooperation, preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of African countries, and creating a continent with a glorious independence through the struggle against colonialism. Ethiopia, which was founded and elected as the seat of the Organization of African Unity, has played an irreplaceable role by providing various supports since its establishment until it has stood on its own two feet.

Ethiopia, which played a major role in the establishment of the African Union, especially the Casablanca and Monrovia groups, narrowed their differences regarding the establishment of African unity through discussions and brought them to a common line, and later played a major role in the establishment of an organization that would strengthen the unity of African countries.

Ethiopia not only played the lion's share in the establishment of African unity, but also the contribution that Ethiopia made to the organization to stand on its own two feet after its establishment is not easily forgotten. In general, Ethiopia's contribution to the establishment of African unity and the establishment of the African Union is significant.

Ethiopia has also made an unforgettable contribution to the liberation of African countries from colonialism and their establishment as countries. It has also served as a center for various movements in the world.

It has also done everything expected of a true friend by providing financial, military and logistical support to freedom fighters to win their independence. Ethiopia not only helped to establish the Organization of African Unity but also played a positive role in supporting the continent’s liberation struggle from colonialism; including supporting the South Africa’s liberation struggle against apartheid and the success of Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle as well .

Ethiopia also played an irreplaceable role when the Organization of African Unity completed its mission and transitioned to the African Union. It also participated in the strengthening of the African Union, starting with providing space for the construction of a modern conference hall in its capital.

At the same time, many works are being carried out to ensure that Addis Ababa, the seat of the African Union, maintains its status and is suitable for the seat of the Union. The work being done in the corridor development to make it a city suitable for visitors and a preferred city by combining beauty and modernity is one example of this effort.

In general, since the great contribution of Emperor Haile Selassie I to the establishment of the Organization of African Unity, Ethiopia has continued to play its African role effectively under the leadership of Colonel Mengistu Hailemariam, former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, former Prime Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn, and now Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD). This is a role that generations will cherish and remember !
