The Teferi Kela Primary School in Dara Otilicho Woreda, Sidama Region, has received a significant expansion thanks to a USD 70,000 grant from Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots and Human Security Projects (GGP).
A handover ceremony was held today, attended by Sidama Regional State Education Office Vice Head Million Yossa and Dara Otilicho Woreda Education Office Head Debebe Daala.
The funding enabled the construction of a new school building with four furnished classrooms. This expansion will benefit approximately 1,800 existing students by improving the student-teacher ratio to meet government standards and allow for an additional 200 students to enroll.
Speaking at the ceremony, Kaori Hori, Economic Attaché of the Embassy of Japan, emphasized Japan's commitment to improving the quality of education and securing a brighter future for Ethiopian children.
The GGP program, established in 1989, has supported over 400 projects in Ethiopia across various sectors, including education, healthcare, women's empowerment, and other essential human needs.
