Ethiopia is poised to transform its customs operations with the imminent launch of a sophisticated 'Electronic Cargo Tracking' system.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Ethiopian Customs Commission, signals a major leap toward modernizing trade and ensuring tighter control over the movement of goods across its borders.
A high-level discussion recently took place, bringing together key stakeholders to fine-tune the implementation of this transformative system.
The meeting, attended by Customs Commissioner Debele Qabeta, Worku Gachena (PhD), Director General of the Artificial Intelligence Institute, and Shibru Temesgen (PhD), Project Manager from Addis Ababa University, focused on the intricacies of deploying the 'Electronic Cargo Tracking' system, integrating artificial intelligence for enhanced border control, and leveraging other cutting-edge technological solutions.
Commissioner Debele emphasized the commission's commitment to innovation, stating, "We are actively embracing technologies to not only streamline our service delivery but also to strengthen legal compliance and security."
He highlighted the crucial collaborative effort with the Artificial Intelligence Institute and Addis Ababa University in realizing the full potential of the 'Electronic Cargo Tracking' system and other technological advancements. Imagine the real-time tracking of goods, from port of entry to final destination, creating a transparent and secure supply chain.
Worku, Director General of the Artificial Intelligence Institute, expressed his institute's dedication to supporting the commission's goals by developing "a wide array of technological products specifically tailored to enhance its services."
The collaboration aims to see the Ethiopian Electronic Cargo Tracking System, along with other technologies, fully operational soon, creating a more efficient and secure trade environment. This not only promises to reduce opportunities for illicit trade but also paves the way for faster clearance times and smoother logistics for legitimate businesses.
The Commission has announced that the deployment of the Ethiopian Electronic Cargo Tracking System is imminent. While a specific launch date is yet to be revealed, all indications suggest that this transformative technology will be making its debut shortly, promising a new era of efficiency, transparency, and security in Ethiopian customs operations.
