The visit, designed to foster transparency and highlight the university's commitment to excellence, provided an in-depth look at the institution's efforts to transform into a leading force in law enforcement education and training within Africa.
Deputy Commissioner General Mesfin Abebe, President of the EPUC, extended a warm welcome to the assembled media representatives.
In his address, the President articulated the university's vision to provide cutting-edge police services, driven by a commitment to innovative training and a pursuit of organizational excellence.
Deputy Commissioner General Mesfin stated, "Our aim is clear. We are dedicated to becoming a top-tier police institution within the African continent, ranking amongst the top five in terms of performance, organizational structure, and educational rigour.”
He further emphasized that these changes are intended to equip the Ethiopian police force with the skills and knowledge to effectively serve and protect the public in an evolving global landscape.
The journalists were given a comprehensive tour of the EPUC facilities, with a particular focus on two key areas. The first stop was the Forensic Science Institute’s Research Excellence Center, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to advancing the scientific aspects of criminal investigations.
Besides this, the Reporters were given an overview of the ongoing research initiatives and the centre's role in fostering a new generation of forensic experts in Ethiopia.
Following that, the delegation visited the site of the International Police Leadership Institute, a new project reflecting the EPUC's commitment to global best practices.
This institute, currently under construction, will serve as a hub for advanced leadership training for police officers from across the country and potentially beyond, fostering international collaboration and enhancing regional security cooperation.
The tour provided the journalists with valuable insight into the substantial investments being made by the Ethiopian Police University in upgrading its facilities, curriculum, and research capabilities.
The emphasis on international standards, technology integration, and leadership development demonstrated the university's dedication to meeting the complex challenges of modern policing. This visit serves as a crucial step in creating public awareness and showcasing the Ethiopian government's commitment to building a professional and effective law enforcement agency that is accountable to the public it serves, according to the President of the EPUC.
