The first ship carrying 472,500 quintals of urea fertilizer has arrived at the port of Djibouti.
The first Ethiopian ship, MV Abay II, carrying 472,500 quintals of urea fertilizer out of the 23 million quintals of fertilizer to be imported in the 2017/18 production season, has arrived at the port of Djibouti.
The transportation of the fertilizer to the country is expected to begin soon. A budget of 1.3 billion dollars has been allocated to purchase 23 million quintals of fertilizer for the 2017/18 production season.
The Ethiopian Agricultural Inputs Corporation reports that the government's new procurement guidelines have saved 21 billion birr in the past production season.
