Ethiopia Successfully Hosts 4th Preparatory Conference On International Financing For Development

The 4th Preparatory Conference on International Financing for Development, which convened from July 22–26, 2024, in Addis Ababa, has successfully been concluded.

Ahmed Shide, Ethiopia’s Minister of Finance, stated in his closing remarks that the discussions over the previous five days had been thorough and insightful. He emphasized that resounding messages emerged from the discussions, including the need for transformative actions, sustainable debt management, and innovative solutions to global challenges.

The conference provided a setting for laying out a road map for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), addressing systemic issues in financial institutions, and strengthening multilateralism through inclusivity and equity to improve coordination.

Junhua Li, Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs, also addressed the closing session, emphasizing that the conference provided an opportunity to discuss key issues and deliberate on long-term solutions. Actionable, forward-thinking, and equitable efforts were emphasized in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Under-Secretary-General, thanked the Ethiopian government for the warm reception, as well as all stakeholders who helped to plan and execute the conference successfully, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia.
