Ethiopia's agro-processing industrial parks have received a major boost thanks to a collaborative effort between UNIDO and the Ethiopian government. Tezera Dejene, the Agribusiness and Infrastructure Director, has highlighted the significant strides made in enhancing productivity within these parks. These facilities, strategically placed across the country, have become vital catalysts for Ethiopia's economic development and rural upliftment.

The integrated agro-industrial parks, located in regions like Oromia, Amhara, Sidama, and Tigray, are essential for connecting agriculture with industry. With operational parks already making a difference in Oromia, Amhara, and Sidama, they are contributing to Ethiopia's economic shift and helping to alleviate rural poverty. This initiative is particularly important as Africa faces a massive $90 billion annual import bill for processed goods, largely due to underdeveloped agricultural processing capabilities ENA reported.

UNIDO's support for these parks is crucial, as they create market opportunities for farmers and promote local production by adding value to agricultural outputs. The organization is actively involved in providing training and technical assistance while encouraging private sector participation. With the government also investing in vital infrastructure like power and water supply, these parks are well-positioned to meet market demands and connect smallholder farmers directly with industry.
