Ethiopian MRO, recognized globally for its excellence in aircraft maintenance and training, has signed a significant partnership with ATR, the world’s leading regional aircraft manufacturer. This collaboration aims to enhance Ethiopian MRO’s ATR aircraft maintenance and training capabilities, serving the entire African continent and extending its reach to the Middle East.

The agreement was formalized at the Farnborough International Air Show 2024 in Farnborough, England. According to a press release, this partnership will bolster Ethiopian Airlines' maintenance capabilities for ATR aircraft and facilitate the establishment of a local spares stock, enabling operators to respond promptly across the region.

Moreover, the Ethiopian Pilot Academy stands to gain from this deal, with new platforms introduced to train ATR pilots. This development positions Ethiopian MRO to significantly impact the aviation industry across Africa and the Middle East.

Mesfin Tasew, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines, highlighted the strategic importance of this partnership. “This partnership aligns with Ethiopian Airlines Group’s vision to become a leading aviation reference for the African continent and the Middle East. We aim to share our expertise and benefit the entire African and Middle Eastern aviation community. This collaboration reinforces Ethiopia’s positioning as a key hub, and the fact that an established OEM such as ATR approaches us to leverage our capabilities for their fleet and operators is a testament to the recognition we have earned.”

Nathalie Tarnaud Laude, CEO of ATR, praised Ethiopian MRO’s significant investments in expanding their facilities. She remarked, “This agreement presents a timely opportunity for ATR to provide better support to our African and Middle Eastern operators. We are confident this cooperation will help boost regional aviation and unlock further potential for growth for ATR. Our operators will benefit from an improved quality of service, lower maintenance costs, reduced downtimes, and lower emissions through the support of an experienced partner close to their needs.”

This partnership is set to elevate Ethiopian MRO’s role in the aviation sector, fostering growth and development for regional aviation in Africa and the Middle East.
