Somali Region President Spotlights Nations Day Significance for Celebrating Shared Unity

Somali Region President Mustafa Muhumed Omer said Ethiopians are peoples who have coexisted for generations, quarreling and reconciling, as he spoke at the Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Day celebration in Jigjiga.

President Omer stated that beyond recognizing Ethiopia’s diversity, the holiday presents an opportunity to further strengthen national unity by understanding one another.

He suggested additional effort is needed for unity based on equality and mutual respect between peoples, as the holiday has gained increased significance in recent years.

While the day provides a platform for groups to celebrate their identity and culture annually in one place, the leader underscored that it ultimately displays the shared nationhood and diversity mosaic of the country.

By reaffirming unity around the holiday, President Omer affirmed, we further develop shared Ethiopian identity.
