Mayor Adanech Abiebie today inaugurated and opened the Taytu Cultural and Education Center for service.
The center is opened in the residence of the first Prime Minister, Minister of Commerce and Foreign Affairs, and the second Mayor of Addis Ababa, Bitwoded Haile Giorgis Haile Mikael, a house that is 120 years old.
This house, which is a national heritage, is a historical building that also served as the first municipality and a center for justice.
The house was beautifully renovated with the support of the Addis Ababa City Administration, amounting to 39 million Birr, and with the participation of numerous stakeholders, coordinated by the beloved artist Alemtsahay Wedajo.
After the inauguration of the center, the mayor shared on her social media page that during the past years of reform, they have done extensive work to make Addis Ababa comfortable for its residents.
Alongside this, she stated that they have carried out various activities to renovate heritage sites in different areas to make the city a tourist destination and add beauty and attraction.
She cited as an example that heritage sites in the Piassa area have been renovated to standard without losing their original character, dusted off, and opened for service.
Mayor Adanech said that the Taytu Cultural and Education Center, in addition to being a tourist destination, will help produce future arts professionals for our country.
She thanked Artist Alemtsahay Wedajo, who played a major role in making the center a reality.
