New Agricultural Policy Promises Sector Transformation

In a pivotal forum held in Wolayita Sodo, President Tilahun Kebede of the Southern Ethiopia Regional State emphasized the critical role of the newly revised Agricultural and Rural Development Policy in achieving transformative results in the agricultural sector.

This event marks the first comprehensive introduction of the policy in 22 years, underscoring its significance for regional leaders and stakeholders.

President Tilahun articulated that a thorough understanding and implementation of this policy is essential for enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring food security.

"Agriculture must take precedence in our multi-sector economic strategy," he asserted, highlighting its foundational role in Ethiopia's economic framework.

The forum, organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, aims to equip regional leaders with the knowledge necessary to effectively implement the policy.

Senior officials, including State Minister of Agriculture Professor Eyasu Elias and various zone administrators, are actively participating in this crucial dialogue, fostering a collaborative approach to agricultural reform.

Head of the Region’s Agriculture Bureau, Merihun Fikru (PhD), reinforced the policy's potential to support ongoing macroeconomic reforms.

He noted that by aligning agricultural practices with national development goals, the policy not only aims to boost productivity but also seeks to empower rural communities economically.

As Ethiopia faces pressing challenges in food production and rural development, this revised policy is poised to serve as a cornerstone for revitalizing the agricultural sector.

The outcomes of this forum will likely shape future initiatives, ensuring that agriculture remains a priority in the nation’s development agenda.

With strong leadership and a clear vision, Ethiopia is taking significant steps toward sustainable agricultural advancement.
