The Ethiopian Disaster Risk Management Commission is providing various forms of humanitarian assistance to those displaced by the earthquake in the Afar region. Taye Getachew, the Commission's head of basic services and recovery, stated that the commission is providing humanitarian aid to the displaced. Ahmed Ibrahim, head of the Afar region's high command and coordinator of the command post established to provide disaster relief and monitoring, reported that assistance has been provided to over 6,000 displaced people.
Over the weekend, flour, macaroni, nutritious food, cooking supplies, and potable water were distributed to those displaced from two districts. The Ethiopian National Defense Force is also providing potable water. They stated that the regional government, in collaboration with stakeholders, will continue to strengthen its humanitarian aid efforts. Relocation efforts to safer areas, along with continued health and other support services for those in at-risk areas, will also continue.
