Ethiopian Ambassador to Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and the European Union, Eshete Tilahun, has held talks with the Deputy Director General for Migration and Home Affairs of the European Union, Dr. Johannes Luchna, in Brussels.
During the occasion, Ambassador Eshete Tilahun stated that Ethiopia is committed to further strengthening its strategic partnership with the European Union in various areas of cooperation.
Ethiopia’s good efforts to enhance bilateral cooperation on migration and returnees, as well as on development issues, were discussed during the discussion.
The EU’s commitment to supporting returnees in addition to addressing the root causes of migration was highlighted.
Ambassador Eshete reaffirmed Ethiopia’s readiness to strengthen its strategic partnership with the European Union noting the impact of visa restrictions on trade and people-to-people exchanges.
The two leaders agreed to continue open and constructive discussions on issues of mutual interest, including refugees, returns and other issues of mutual interest.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Eshete held talks with Ambassador Kai Ran, Head of the Chinese Mission to the European Union.
The Ambassador praised China’s important role and support in various areas of socio-economic development in Ethiopia.
Ambassador Kai Ran, for his part, said that his country will strengthen its cooperation to realize the industrial development of Africa, including Ethiopia.
He noted that Ethiopia-China relations are developing in various economic areas, including trade, investment and infrastructure.
The ambassadors expressed their desire to continue their consultations on regional and international issues, according to the Ethiopian Embassy in Brussels.
