Political, Economic Reforms in Ethiopia Paying Off

The comprehensive reforms undertaken by the government over the years have not only fostered a civilized political culture but also enhanced the economic participation of the private sector, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Gideon Timotheos (PhD).

A strategic partnership forum aimed at strengthening cooperation between Ethiopia and the European Union has begun in Addis Ababa.

He said that political and economic reforms that have been made in the past years have begun to repair political flaws of years.

He cited the National Consultative Commission, Transitional Justice, Reform Commission, indigenous economic reforms and the implementation of a comprehensive macroeconomic policy as examples.

He also noted that Ethiopia wants to strengthen its comprehensive relations with the European Union and its member states.

On her part, the European Union Ambassador to Ethiopia, Sophie From-Emmesberger said Ethiopia has a crucial role to play in regional peace and stability.

She noted that the European Union and its member states share the concerns of Ethiopia and its people.

She said that the Ankara Agreement with Somalia is a good step towards peace and security in the region, pledging commitments of the EU to further support regional stability.
