John Dramani Mahama has been declared the winner of Ghana's presidential election, securing 56.55% of the vote, according to provisional results released by the Electoral Commission. His opponent, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, conceded defeat on Sunday.
With votes counted from 267 of 276 constituencies and a 60.9% voter turnout, Mahama's victory marks a return to power after his previous term (2012-2016).
He campaigned on a platform of addressing Ghana's economic crisis, promising governance reforms, renegotiation of an IMF bailout, and significant infrastructure investment.
Mahama attributed his win to public dissatisfaction with the current government's performance.
