The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has lauded the landmark Ankara Agreement between Ethiopia and Somalia, hailing it as a significant step towards strengthening ties and fostering peace in the Horn of Africa.
In a statement released on Wednesday, IGAD Executive Secretary Workneh Gebeyehu praised the leaders of both countries for their constructive engagement and spirit of cooperation. He expressed gratitude to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his instrumental role in brokering the agreement.
The agreement, reached in Ankara, aims to resolve disputes and promote peace and development for the mutual benefit of both nations. IGAD emphasized the importance of such diplomatic efforts in addressing shared challenges and fostering stability in the region.
The regional bloc reaffirmed its commitment to supporting its member states in their pursuit of sustainable solutions through dialogue, partnership, and mutual cooperation.
