Ethiopia, Somalia Conclude Successful Negotiations

The third round of talks between Ethiopia and Somalia, mediated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara, has concluded with an agreement beneficial to both countries.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud held discussions in Ankara last night at the invitation of President Erdoğan.

Following their discussion, the two leaders issued a joint statement. In the statement, they announced an agreement to begin technical discussions on providing Ethiopia with a sustainable and secure port option via the Somali coast.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed gratitude for Turkey's significant contribution to peace in the Horn of Africa. He emphasized the linguistic, cultural, and blood ties between the Ethiopian and Somali peoples, and reiterated Ethiopia's commitment to working with Somalia for mutual peace and development.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, in turn, stated that the Somali government will not forget the sacrifices made by Ethiopian troops for Somali peace. Both countries affirmed their commitment to continued efforts to maintain peace.

President Erdoğan stated that the document signed by the two countries ensures cooperation, economic growth, and prosperity.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Ethiopia this morning after successfully concluding his meetings in Turkey.
