The Ministry of Agriculture, along with the leaders of Regional Agriculture Bureaus and Representatives of Stakeholders, reviewed the performance of the Ten-Month Federal and Regional joint plan for the 2016 Ethiopian Fiscal Year.
Accordingly, it shows that the agricultural sector has achieved encouraging results this year.
Following the country’s plan in wheat production, the irrigated wheat cultivation saved 700 to 800 million USD of Foreign Exchange that was used for the purchase of wheat each year.
Minister of Agriculture, Girma Amente (PhD) mentioned the strong leadership and cooperation behind the effectiveness of irrigated wheat development.
This year, 90 million quintals of Wheat have been produced from the 3 million hectares of land covered by irrigated wheat cultivation, as per the Minster.
According the Ministry of Agriculture, the planned 120 million quintals will be achieved when the rest of the crops are harvested.
