Minister of Agriculture Dr. Girma Amente has held discussions with Mexico's Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alejandro Estivill.
During the discussion, the Minister noted that Ethiopia, which relied heavily on rain-fed wheat cultivation just five years ago, is now extensively producing the crop using irrigation.
He invited Mexican investors to engage in Ethiopia by processing agricultural products and supporting the modernization of the sector to help meet farmers' mechanization needs.
Dr. Girma also requested that Mexico strengthen its support provided via the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT).
For his part, Ambassador Alejandro Estivill commended Ethiopia's efforts to achieve food self-sufficiency through the development of its agricultural sector.
He stated that Mexico is prepared to share its considerable experience in agricultural modernization and technology transfer with Ethiopia.
According to information from the ministry, Ethiopia and Mexico are expected to sign a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon to formalize their cooperation in agricultural activities.
