Seedling Preparation Underway in Dire Dawa for the Green Legacy Initiative

The Dire Dawa city administration has announced that seedlings with multiple benefits are being prepared for the upcoming rainy season's Green Legacy Initiative program.

According to Masresha Yimer, forest development director at the city administration's Environment, Forest Development, and Climate Authority, various beneficial seedlings are being prepared for this year's Green Legacy Initiative.

He pointed out that among the seedlings being prepared for planting this year are fruit seedlings that will help ensure food security.

Masresha stated that planting and raising seedlings is a matter of survival for Dire Dawa, adding that 72 percent of the seedlings planted in the past six years have survived.

He mentioned that this survival rate has made a fundamental contribution to preventing flooding and ensuring food security for the rural community.

ENA reported that the seedlings, in addition to ensuring food security, will serve for forests, shade, and urban beautification, and will also be used for decoration of the nearing completion of the corridor development.
