Debre Birhan Poised for Economic Boom As City Approves Billions in Investment

Debre Birhan is on the cusp of significant economic expansion, fueled by the approval of investment permits totaling over 20 billion birr.

The announcement came during the Debre Birhan City Council's 44th regular meeting, where officials also outlined aggressive measures taken against illegal business activities, signalling a commitment to fostering a stable and regulated business environment.

"These investments represent a tremendous opportunity for our city. We are working diligently to create an environment where businesses can thrive while ensuring fair practices and protecting the interests of our citizens,” stated First Deputy Mayor Bedlu Wubishet, presenting the performance appraisal report to the council.

According to the City Council, the influx of capital promises to generate numerous job opportunities and stimulate growth across various sectors.

To ensure the legitimacy and stability of the local market, the city has taken a firm stance against illegal trade, the report detailed.

In addition to regulating business activity, the Council is taking steps to stabilize the market by providing nearly 45,000 quintals of agricultural and industrial products.

Support has also been provided to consumer associations through establishment of new groups, as well as support to existing ones.

The report highlighted that in the past six months alone, over 11,000 job opportunities were created for youth within the city administration.

Council Speaker Mengistu Bete emphasized the Council's commitment to oversight and support.

"We are actively monitoring and controlling activities to ensure institutions are meeting their objectives," he stated, adding that the council is committed to supporting institutions so that they can continue to carry out their objectives.

During the two-day meeting, council members will continue to review institutional performance and establish priorities for the coming months, solidifying Debre Birhan's trajectory toward sustainable growth and development.
