Japan Invests $15 Million in Ethiopia's Development, Humanitarian Efforts

Japan has announced a new $15 million (approximately 1.9 billion Ethiopian Birr) aid package for Ethiopia. The funding, in collaboration with UN agencies and an international fund, will support both humanitarian and development efforts, as well as collaborative projects leading up to the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) summit.

The package includes $7.7 million for humanitarian and development activities, aligned with priorities outlined in the High-Level Development Forum, the Humanitarian Response Plan, and Ethiopia's Resilient, Recovery and Reconstruction Framework (3RF). Implementing partners include UNHCR, WHO, UNDP, UNMAS, IOM, UNFPA, UNIDO, UNOCHA, and Education Cannot Wait (ECW).

An additional $7.3 million will support collaborative projects leveraging Japanese technology to address economic and social challenges. These initiatives, developed in partnership with the Ethiopian government, international organizations, Japanese companies, and the Japanese government, will contribute to the goals of TICAD9. Partners in this effort include UNICEF, UNFPA, WFP, UNDP, UN-Habitat, and UNESCO IICBA.

Japan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peace and prosperity in Ethiopia through continued financial and technical assistance.
