Ethiopia's cement industry has dramatically reduced its reliance on imported coal. Since 2020, government policies promoting domestic coal have slashed imports from 100% to 34.15%, while increasing the use of locally sourced coal to 65.85%. This successful transition according to PM’s office, highlights the positive impact of policies prioritizing local resources, enhancing energy security and lessening reliance on foreign imports. Central to this transformation is the ET Minerals PLC coal processing plant in Klele, Dawuro Zone, near Tarcha, boasting a processing capacity of 150 tons per hour and significantly contributing to Ethiopia's growing domestic coal consumption.
