Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), is expected to make her first official visit to Ethiopia on February 8-9, 2025, the Ethiopian finance ministry announced. This marks Georgieva's first trip to the country since her appointment in 2019.
During her two-day visit, Georgieva will meet with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and other senior government officials to discuss Ethiopia's economic outlook, policy priorities, and current reforms. She will also engage with private sector representatives to gain insights into the business environment and economic opportunities within the country. The visit will include site visits to social and development projects.
The ministry's statement according to ENA, emphasized the visit underscores the IMF's commitment to supporting Ethiopia's economic development and fostering dialogue on policies promoting resilience, shared prosperity, and long-term growth.
