Ethiopia is set to host its first-ever International Conference on Irrigation and Climate-Resilient Production, organized by the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands in collaboration with key stakeholders.
The conference, scheduled to take place from February 12–14, 2025, at the Adwa Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa, was announced during a press briefing held by the Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands.
Minister of Irrigation and Lowlands, Abraham Belay, highlighted the event's significance, stating, “This conference will showcase Ethiopia’s vast irrigation potential and its commitment to sustainable agricultural development and climate resilience. Ethiopia, with its abundant water resources, extensive arable land, and rich natural endowments, is implementing transformative reforms to optimize resource utilization for national development.”
State Minister, Tesfaye Yugezu noted that the conference would serve as a platform for sharing best practices, showcasing innovative projects, and encouraging investment in climate-resilient agriculture. “Irrigation development is essential to supporting Ethiopia's agricultural ambitions and ensuring food security,” Tesfaye emphasized.
The Ministry outlined a series of reforms aimed at fostering inclusive development and maximizing the country’s natural resources to build resilience against climate challenges.
The event will bring together high-profile participants, including African leaders, senior government officials, and representatives from the African Union, the World Bank, embassies, and international organizations.
The Ministry of Irrigation and Lowlands highlighted that the conference underscores Ethiopia's leadership in advancing climate-resilient agricultural practices and demonstrates its commitment to fostering global partnerships for sustainable development.
