The National Rehabilitation Commission has announced the official commencement of the disarmament, rehabilitation, and reintegration process for ex-militants in the Tigray region this week.
According to Commissioner Temesgen Tilahun, the Peace Commission has been actively working towards implementing the Pretoria Peace Agreement. This involves developing essential institutions and infrastructure, as well as gathering the required resources.
In the Tigray region, the Commission plans to establish three centers to facilitate the registration, training, and temporary reintegration of ex-combatants into their communities. The initial phase will focus on accommodating 75,000 individuals within a four-month period. The Commission aims to complete the entire program within two years.
To realize this ambitious goal, over 760 million dollars are required. While 60 million dollars have been secured from donor institutions and countries, the government has allocated 1 billion birr for the first phase. Further efforts are underway to mobilize additional funds.
