France to Intensify Development Cooperation with Ethiopia Reaffirms Ambassador Alexis Lamek

French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Alexis Lamek, announced that France will significantly enhance its development cooperation with Ethiopia. The establishment of Ethiopia's first train, constructed with French support, exemplifies the deep-rooted partnership between the two nations.
During a recent visit to Ethiopia, both French President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) committed to collaborative efforts in education, cultural heritage preservation, and economic development, reflecting a strong mutual interest in advancing these sectors.
Ambassador Lamek emphasized the impressive nature of Ethiopia's indigenous macroeconomic reforms, which are propelling the country's growth and paving the way for a bright future. France is fully committed to supporting Ethiopia in achieving these ambitious goals.
Furthermore, he commended Ethiopia's crucial role in promoting world peace and ensuring regional stability. “France will steadfastly strengthen its cooperation with Ethiopia, as the benefits of combating terrorism and fostering peace in the region are undeniable for all involved. Ethiopia’s pursuit of access to a seaport is both legitimate and justified, and I am confident that this matter will be resolved through diplomacy,” stated Ambassador Lamek
He also pointed to the European experience regarding seaports, highlighting that several landlocked nations successfully utilize regional and international cooperation to access maritime facilities.
This approach, he asserted, is equally applicable to Ethiopia, and he expressed that the international community can actively support Ethiopia's quest for a seaport in various constructive ways.
It is noted that Ethiopia and France share a rich diplomatic history that spans over a century, underscoring the strength of their ongoing relationship.
