Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide has stated that the Italian government's collaboration will assist Ethiopia in its efforts to strengthen the private sector and ensure diversified economic growth.
Ethiopia has received 585 million Birr in support from Italy to help realize its digital transformation and innovation-driven economic growth.
The support agreement was signed by Minister of Finance Ahmed Shide and Italian Minister of Education, Universities and Research, Anna Maria.
According to Ahmed Shide, the financial support from the Italian government will strengthen Ethiopia's digital services.
He also highlighted that this support demonstrates the long-standing historical and economic ties between Ethiopia and Italy.
The Minister stated that Ethiopia plays a significant role in the Horn of Africa's geopolitics, and the Italian government recognizes the region's current situation as a shared concern.
He explained that the Italian government's support for digital services and the development of advanced technological expertise will significantly contribute to achieving the goals of Digital Ethiopia 2025.
The Italian Minister of Education, Universities and Research, Anna Maria, in turn, stated that Ethiopia and Italy will collaborate on biodiversity, agricultural technology, water management, and similar issues.
She affirmed that they recognize the importance of Ethiopia's comprehensive macroeconomic reform for citizen benefit and national development. They pledged to continue strengthening their support and collaboration to ensure Ethiopia has adequate infrastructure and a skilled workforce.
The Italian Minister emphasized Italy's shared historical, heritage, and cultural bonds with Ethiopia, stating that their commitment is not merely support for Ethiopia, but a collaborative effort for mutual development.
