The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa has commemorated United Nations Day, emphasizing the UN's commitment to tackling global challenges and fostering international cooperation.

The event, marking the anniversary of the UN's founding in 1945, highlighted the importance of practical action in addressing pressing issues like climate change and human rights.

The ceremony began with a solemn flag-raising, bringing together dignitaries and representatives from various nations to honor the UN's principles of peace, security, and collaboration.

In a powerful address, Ramiz Alakbarov, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Ethiopia, stressed the urgency of addressing global challenges, stating, "Hope is not enough; we need practical action." He emphasized the critical role of the UN in confronting these issues.

Simunigus Habtegiorgis, Director General of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reinforced Ethiopia's commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals, noting the need for unified efforts to address current global challenges.

Gaokgakala Daniel, Acting Chief of Staff and Advisor on Education to the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, called for a restructured UN that reflects the diverse voices of its member states.

The event concluded with speeches by volunteer youth participants, who emphasized the crucial need for international collaboration and illustrated the ongoing commitment to working towards a more peaceful and sustainable future.
