Mekele City Commences A Two Billion Dollar Effort To Build New Roads

Mekele City is kicking off an impressive project worth 2.1 billion birr to enhance its road infrastructure. The local administration has announced that construction has officially started on a four-kilometre asphalt road, which will include nine key points throughout the city.

Haftu Mebrahtu, the Infrastructure Development Advisor for the Mayor, shared that this initiative is part of the plans for the 2017 fiscal year, aiming to not only build new roads but also to patch up existing ones, totaling 5.2 kilometres of repairs.

Residents are buzzing with excitement about the road development project. Kedan Solomon and Yared Adane highlighted how well-received the initiative is among locals, while Haji Seid Hussain expressed his commitment to helping expedite the construction process.

Abraham Nigatu also chimed in, sharing his relief at the return of peace in the area alongside the ongoing improvements. Last year, the municipal administration invested 7.7 billion birr to construct 69 kilometres of both new and existing roads, showcasing their dedication to enhancing the city's infrastructure.
