Ethiopia's BRICS Meeting, A big Deal For The Future

Ethiopia’s national interests are protected by the BRICS framework. This was disclosed during the third regular session of Ethiopian National BRICS Ministerial Coordination Committee. The remark was made by the governor of the National Bank and chief coordinator of BRICS Ethiopia, Sherpa and Mamo Mehretu.

This gathering served as a platform to delve into Ethiopia's strategic approach to its BRICS involvement, alongside a thorough evaluation by the Committee of Senior Experts regarding the nation’s participation over the past year.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,  the discussions also encompassed insights from two previous foreign minister meetings and reports from the BRICS Secretariat, all aimed at enhancing Ethiopia's engagement within this influential group.

As the committee prepared for the upcoming meeting in Russia this October, they meticulously reviewed the arrangements for Ethiopia's participation. Mamo Mehretu, the governor of the National Bank and chief coordinator of BRICS Ethiopia, Sherpa emphasized that the BRICS framework plays a crucial role in safeguarding the nation's interests.

He noted that since joining BRICS, Ethiopia has been an active participant in various forums, which has significantly bolstered its diplomatic standing on the global stage. Ambassador Misganu Arega, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Deputy Coordinator of BRICS, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the elevated level of diplomacy achieved through Ethiopia's BRICS membership.

The committee members collectively recognized the importance of collaboration to ensure Ethiopia's prominent role within the BRICS framework. They reached a consensus on the final form of Ethiopia's participation strategy and outlined specific tasks for each member in preparation for the Leaders’ Conference set to take place in Kazan City, Russia, later this month.
