Ethiopian New Year in the Eyes of World Media

A Pan-African news source, AllAfrican.com;  released an article focusing on the message of greetings for the Ethiopian New Year from the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Dr). The news source reports that the Prime Minister in his message expressed his belief that the New Year will be a time when national plans will succeed, huge projects will be completed and issues that have been the source of differences for centuries will be resolved through national consultation and transitional justice.

South Sudan's I-Radio reported, "Ethiopians are celebrating their new year". The radio station explained that Ethiopians have their own calendar, which is different from the Gregorian calendar used by most of the world's population; pointing out that the calendar is 7 years behind the calendar, and the country has moved to 2017.

The station pointed out that Ethiopia has a 13-month calendar system and pointed out that the 13th month has 5 days, and every 4 years it has 6 days. It reported that the Ethiopians in South Sudan are also celebrating the New Year celebration according to their country's tradition and culture. Teen Vogue, an American online magazine focused on women, beauty and entertainment; released a broad commentary, linking the Ethiopian New Year with the beauty of Adey Ababa.

The magazine also explained that when the summer is approaching in Ethiopia, the field will be flooded with yellow Adey Ababa to herald the arrival of the New Year. He also said that Ethiopia is a wonderful country with a different culture and history, including its calendar.

The Punch, a Nigerian daily newspaper, reported that popular Afrobeat artist David Adeleke (Davido) has performed in Ethiopia on New Year's Eve. The newspaper also stated that thousands of audiences participated in the music festival. It said that the singer’s social media followers were surprised to learn that Ethiopia's New Year will be in September and the country is in 2017 according to its calendar.

TV 47, a Kenyan television channel; has expressed the astonishing fact that, while most of the countries in the world, including Kenya, are approaching the end of 2024, Ethiopia is delighted to welcome the New Year. It explained that this is because the country has its own ancient calendar system. The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation reported on its TRT Africa page that Ethiopians are celebrating their new year. It also provided information about Ethiopia's chronology and other related facts.
