A New Era for Duty-Free Shopping in Ethiopia

Ethiopian Airlines and Ethiopian Tourist Trading Enterprise have joined forces to revolutionize the shopping experience in the country. A groundbreaking memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed yesterday paving the way for the construction of Ethiopia's first-ever duty-free retail mall.

This state-of-the-art facility, will be located adjacent to Bole International Airport's Cargo Service. It is believed to be a major economic boost, generating foreign currency and promoting tourism.

The mall, over Four billion dollars  investment is expected to significantly enhance the shopping experience for travelers, tourists, and the diplomatic community. It will offer a curated selection of luxury products, catering to the diverse needs of international visitors.

Foreign Affairs State Minister and Ethiopian Tourist Trading Enterprise (ETTE) Board Chairman, Ambassador Mesganu Arga, emphasized the importance of this project. "Ethiopian Airlines is a leading global carrier, transporting millions of passengers annually. A world-class duty-free mall is a natural extension of their services, providing a convenient and luxurious shopping experience for travelers," he stated.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, Mesfin Tassew, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. "This project aligns perfectly with our vision of providing exceptional services to our customers. The duty-free mall will not only enhance the airport experience but also contribute to the growth of Ethiopian tourism."

Rahel Getachew, CEO of ETTE, highlighted the unique offerings that the mall will provide. "We are committed to curating a selection of products that appeal to discerning travelers. From luxury fashion and electronics to local handicrafts, the mall will be a destination for unforgettable shopping experiences."

According to local media, the construction of the duty-free retail mall is a significant step forward in Ethiopia's economic development. It will create jobs, attract foreign investment, and position the country as a premier shopping destination for international travelers.
