Nation Pledges Stronger Interpol Partnership Against Transnational Crime

Ethiopia is committed to bolstering its cooperation with Interpol in the fight against transnational crimes, announced President Taye Atske Selassie today.

The President's declaration came after a productive meeting with Interpol President Major General Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi at his office. President Taye lauded Interpol's crucial role in fostering global police collaboration, reaffirming Ethiopia's resolve to intensify its efforts against cross-border criminal activities.

Federal Police Commissioner General Demelash Gebremichael, in a briefing on the discussions, underscored President Taye's assurance to the Interpol chief of Ethiopia's unwavering commitment to international security. Both leaders stressed the vital need for a unified approach to combat terrorism, cybercrime, human trafficking, and other interconnected criminal networks, according to ENA.

Discussions also focused on how Interpol can further support Ethiopian and African police forces through capacity building, training, and the provision of advanced technologies. Commissioner General Demelash noted that Ethiopia already leverages international technologies used by Interpol, adding that today's meeting is expected to significantly enhance relations by strengthening police capabilities with modern tools and ongoing training.

He further highlighted Ethiopia's active participation as an Interpol member, reiterating the country's dedication to reinforcing its engagement within the organization.

Major General Al-Raisi confirmed that his discussions with President Taye focused on Interpol's role in combating organized crime. He acknowledged Ethiopia's extensive, over seven-decade-long involvement with the organization, emphasizing its critical role in addressing organized crime, cybercrime, and human trafficking.
