Ethiopia's Fayda Digital ID Revolutionizing Access for Millions Says PM Abiy Ahmed

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed today unveiled the transformative impact of Ethiopia's "Fayda" digital ID system, asserting its crucial role in connecting millions of citizens to essential services. Speaking at the official opening of the ID4Africa 2025 Annual General Meeting in Addis Ababa, PM Abiy highlighted the nation's rapid shift from a fragmented identification system to a secure and inclusive digital future.

The Prime Minister emphasized that Fayda, launched under the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, has already enrolled over 15 million people, with an ambitious target of reaching 90 million. He stressed the program's commitment to inclusivity, ensuring that women, youth, and even displaced communities gain access to vital services across finance, health, and education.

Ethiopia is proudly hosting the ID4Africa 2025 event, a pan-African movement dedicated to building robust identity ecosystems for socio-economic development and digital transformation across the continent. Prime Minister Abiy also revealed that the broader IDethiopia initiative is already facilitating a staggering 9.6 trillion birr in digital transactions, underscoring the profound economic impact of this digital leap.
