Dr. Joseph Atik, founder of ID for Africa, declared that “the future must be led by Africa, for Africa, by Africa” during the ongoing ID for Africa 2025 Annual General Meeting in Addis Ababa.
The meeting serves as a pivotal platform aimed at fostering inclusive digital identity and ensuring that every African has access to recognized digital services.
Dr. Atik emphasized the importance of Africa taking control of its digital destiny, highlighting six critical issues that will shape the continent's future.
These include digital transformation, geopolitical positioning, congested public service delivery, the approaching deadline for the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, the rise of artificial intelligence, and the escalating threat of cybercrime. According to Dr. Atik, these interconnected challenges also present significant opportunities for growth and innovation across Africa.
As nations grapple with rapid technological advancements and shifting global dynamics, Dr. Atik urged African leaders to harness their own resources and capabilities to safeguard their digital and economic futures.
He called for collaborative efforts among African countries to build resilient digital infrastructures that can withstand external pressures.
Ethiopia expressed gratitude to Dr. Atik for his leadership and vision in hosting the ID for Africa 2025 General Assembly, underscoring the collective responsibility of African nations to embrace a united approach toward their digital futures.
