Ethiopia has expressed its commitment to achieving the goals set for nutrition and the Sekota Declaration during the Nutrition for Growth Paris 2025 Summit, according to the Health Ministry.
In a sideline event, State Minister for Health Dr. Dereje Duguma said Ethiopia's food and nutrition programs prove promising.
The 2025 Nutrition for Growth Summit was held in Paris, France, at the global level. This forum is held every four years and is a platform where UN member states and partners express their commitment to nutrition development.
It was in the 2021 Global Summit on Nutrition for Growth, held in Tokyo, Japan, that goals were set to be implemented by all UN member states, especially those implementing the Scaling up Nutrition Movement, through government and partner efforts.
According to the Ethiopian Ministry of Health, Ethiopia organized a side event in Paris ahead of the main conference under the theme “Implementing the Food Security Pact—From Tokyo to Paris 2025 Conference—Expanding Access to Investment and Implementation by Governments and Partners in the Food Security Pact Expansion Phase (2021–2025).”
At the same event, Ethiopia presented the implementation of the goals set at the 2021 conference in Tokyo, Japan, and announced the food and nutrition systems and food security pact implementation targets it has set for the period 2026 to 2030.
State minister for health Dr. Dereje Duguma, who opened the forum, said that the government has continued to strengthen its commitment to investing in food systems, human resource development, and achieving national and international development goals through the commitment of the top leadership and the allocation of resources.
He said that in recent years, the government has invested heavily from the regular budget and implemented the Food and Nutrition Strategy and the Sekota Declaration, which have yielded promising results.
The government, in addition to the Bounty of Baskets Initiative, is implementing programs such as the Food and Nutrition Strategy, School Feeding, Green Development, and others that contribute significantly to the improvement of food and nutrition systems, and these activities will continue to be strengthened, he noted.
The forum highlighted the government's commitment to achieving the SDGs, while 19 international and non-governmental organizations expressed their support for the achievement of the new and revised goals set for food and nutrition and the SDGs from 2026 to 2030 at the side event Ethiopia organized.
