On a special occasion marking the 55th Independence Day of Bangladesh, Sikder Bodiruzzaman, Bangladesh's Ambassador to Ethiopia, reflected on his country’s remarkable journey and the strengthening relationship between Bangladesh and Ethiopia. The Ambassador also shared insights into Bangladesh's economic rise and the importance of further political and business engagement between the two nations.

The Ambassador also emphasized the economic progress Bangladesh has achieved since its independence in 1971. "Bangladesh was once considered a ‘basket case,’ but today, our per capita income has reached $2,700, and we are steadily progressing toward becoming a developing nation. Our foreign reserves now stand at $27 billion,” Bodiruzzaman noted.

The Ambassador expressed optimism that Bangladesh would become a "Smart Bangladesh" in the next 15-20 years.

He highlighted the increasing connectivity between Ethiopia and Bangladesh, particularly through the Addis Ababa to Dhaka flight connection, which operates five times a week. “This flight connection facilitates not only travel but also business and cultural exchange between the two nations,” he said. "It’s a vital link that will allow the people of both countries to engage in trade, commerce, and mutual cooperation."

The Ambassador also underscored the need for continuous collaboration between the Bangladesh Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Airlines, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of both countries. "These institutions must work together to create and expand opportunities for growth," he added.

Ambassador Bodiruzzaman stressed the importance of high-level political visits in advancing bilateral relations. “I had the honor of meeting with the Ethiopian President, but political exchanges between our countries both from Ethiopia to Bangladesh and vice versa are essential for progress,” he explained.

With growing economic ties, political diplomacy, and ongoing collaboration, the Ambassador expressed confidence that Bangladesh and Ethiopia would continue to develop as key partners, ultimately benefiting both nations through expanded trade, commerce, and diplomatic engagement.
