Ethiopia Delivers Power for Djibouti's Water Needs
The Ethiopian Electric Utility has announced the completion of the electricity infrastructure installation for the Djibouti Transboundary Drinking Water Project.
The utility stated that the drinking water project's installation was carried out in two phases. In the first phase, 8 megawatts of power, the installation of 36 kilometers of lines, and the installation of 8 transformers with a capacity of 1250 KVA each were undertaken.
It was also mentioned that the second phase of the work was carried out based on an additional power request submitted by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Water and Energy and ONEAD, the Djibouti water project.
Accordingly, in the second phase, the installation of 46 kilometers of lines and the placement of 28 transformers were completed.
In both phases, the line installation, transformer placement, and meter installation works resulted in a total of 82 kilometers of line installation and the placement of 36 transformers.
The utility stated that considering the national significance of the project, it was possible to successfully complete the work despite the area's harsh desert climate.
Currently, information from the utility indicates that the second phase of the project has been completed and is being handed over.
